Abstract
In connection with our research into antibacterial fluoroquinolones we required ethyl 1-ethyl-6-fluoro-1,4-dihydro-8-hydroxy-4-oxoquinoline-3-carboxylate (IIc) as an intermediate. This paper describes synthesis of this compound and the corresponding carboxylic acid.
