Empirical parameters of (E-Z) isomerization

Abstract

Equilibrium constants of (E-Z) isomerization of compounds A-CH=CH-B can be expressed, on the basis of factor analysis, in the form log K(Z/E)AB = aA1F1B + aA2F2B, where the first term corresponds to electrostatic interactions of substituents in the isomers and the second term expresses the difference in steric interactions.
