Abstract

Kinetics of the azo coupling reaction of 1-aminonaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid with nine substituted benzenediazonium chlorides was investigated at four temperatures. The results were processed in terms of the isokinetic relationship and of an isoparametric relationship with temperature and σ constant as independent variables. There is a great similarity to the coupling reaction of 1-hydroxynaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid; all the results are consistent with a cyclic transition state implying variable association of a water molecule.
