Abstract

The gas and liquid phase hydrogenations of nitrobenzene and liquid phase hydrogenation of p-chloronitrobenzene on Pt-Cu catalysts were studied. The effect of the copper content on a catalyst was examined, and a relationship was sought between the degree of occupation of the platinum surface by copper and the decrease in the hydrogenation activity in the liquid phase hydrogenation of nitrobenzene. The mechanism of this reaction is discussed.
